Offline toast lab utility

Stop guessing which bread and heat setting worked.

Toast Match is a narrow home utility for people who make toast often and want to remember the exact bread, slice thickness, freshness, heat level, cycles and toaster device that produced a good result without a raw center, dry texture or burnt edges.

ApplicationSwiftUINative iPhone utility for iOS 16+.
ModeFully offlineNo internet, accounts, cloud, external API, hidden network dependency or social features.
StorageUserDefaults + CodableBreads, appliances, attempts and settings are saved locally.
PhotosLocal sandboxResult photos live in Documents/ToastMatchImages with relative paths in models.

A home experiment flow for better toast decisions.

Toast Match is not a breakfast social network, recipe app, nutrition diary or casino-like game. It is a small utility that turns repeated household attempts into practical repeatable combinations.

1

Create bread and toaster cards

Store bread style, usual thickness, freezing habit, toaster heat range and device modes.

2

Start New run

Pick bread, pick device, set freshness, heat level, cycles, defrost, room temperature and notes.

3

Preview conditions

Show profile thickness and actual run thickness side by side before cooking.

4

Evaluate result

Rate surface color, evenness, inside warmth, crispness, dryness penalty, burn penalty and problems.

5

Learn from Matchboard

Compare best matches, thickness drift, frozen recovery, failure map and retest candidates.

Snapshot-first history

Old runs stay readable even after bread or device cards change.

Each ToastAttempt stores a ToastAttemptSnapshot with bread title, style, thickness label, appliance title, heat scale and defrost information. Historical records do not lose their context if a profile is edited or archived.

The result feels like a small home lab: practical, local, and focused on one repeatable everyday task.

Five themed sections with fixed names.

The product keeps its own kitchen vocabulary instead of generic app tabs.

H

Hearth

Toast right now, Today’s repeat, Worth another pass, Trouble spots today and Bread on deck.

R

Runs

Archive of attempts with Great, Mixed, Bad, Frozen, Retest and Photo filters plus detailed run reports.

L

Loaf Cards

Card library for breads and appliances with best pairings, bad outcomes, thickness drift and machine notes.

M

Matchboard

Best Matches, Thin vs Thick, Frozen Recovery, Failure Map and Retest Shelf.

C

Cupboard

Kitchen defaults, demo shelf, export and backup, clean reset and About this log.

Matchboard turns repeated attempts into useful conclusions.

The app avoids confident claims when data is thin. It explains what is missing before showing a conclusion.

Repeatability score

A clear 0–100 score with plain-language labels.

The score averages surface color, evenness, inside warmth and crispness, then adjusts for dryness, burn penalty, wouldRepeat flags and strong variance between similar attempts.

The user sees Reliable, Promising, Mixed, Retest or Poor match instead of a black-box recommendation.
